Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd (MD 704) Streetscape Improvement

Updates

On November 27, 2018 the City of Seat Pleasant hosted a stakeholders' meeting to ensure that all agencies' concerns are taken into consideration. In addition to staff from the City of Seat Pleasant, the Planning Department and the State Highway Administration were represented.

Description

To advance the economic development and healthy living goals of the city the objective of this project is to obtain 30% engineering design plans for MD 704 improvements that accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, and cars. Within the existing State right-of-way there is excess land from ‘Road Diet’ lane reductions. This allows for the redesign of the roadway to encourage safe, non-vehicular uses of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Implementation will create a more user-friendly streetscape; a neighborhood street where people will want to stop to shop, eat, and exercise (walk or bike). This design plan can be used to request funding to construct the recommended improvements.
